The Annual Whirlpool Appliance Sale took place last weekend in St. Joseph with another year of exceptional sales attributed toward the Whirlpool Corporation Employee Campaign to benefit United Way of Southwest Michigan.

Senior Director of Organizational Sustainability Zack East notes, “After expenses, the sale netted about $100,000. Over 800 units were moved between the two days across 400 sales made, which means most people averaged two items purchased per person. That’s really exciting to know we’re meeting the needs of the community with sale items, and keeping those dollars right here in our local community, too.”

East says the sale took place Saturday, August 23 and Sunday, August 24 at the former Rosback building, which is a very large former factory space donated by Clark Logic, owners of the newly rehabilitated building. Whirlpool Corporation provides the employee support to procure and inventory hundreds of items from across the Midwest to be shipped to the area for the sale.

The sale is an annual in-person event open to the public and offers 300+ discounted Maytag, KitchenAid, JennAir and Whirlpool brand ovens, ranges, refrigerators, dishwashers, washers, and dryers at significant savings. All major appliances are new with a full one-year warranty. The sale also featured Gladiator products and KitchenAid small appliances at exclusive prices.

“This event just seems to grow every year in demand and success, and it’s because of Whirlpool’s longstanding commitment to the community and supporting causes like ours,” stated United Way President & CEO Anna Murphy. “I am certain we wouldn’t be as successful without the hundreds of volunteer hours of Whirlpool’s staff, community volunteers, and United Way staff that come together for months to plan and execute the Appliance Sale. Though it’s a lot of work, the reward of helping the community in more ways than one is quite exciting.”

East says there will be another edition of the sale soon. “We talked about moving this sale to the Spring for the future to help people get their homes and businesses ready for spring & summer projects. We might also do an online sale before the holidays. It’s a nice set of options to have, and it wouldn’t happen without Whirlpool’s donation of these appliances. It’s a bit unheard of to hold a fundraiser and the beneficiary receives 100% of the proceeds. We can’t thank them enough.”
