Waterfront House of Framing & Fashion, a cherished downtown St. Joseph destination for unique art, expert custom framing, and women’s boutique fashion, is proud to announce a change in leadership. Founder and long-time owner Valerie Byrnes has entrusted the business to local entrepreneur Corey Carolla, following the exciting news of Valerie’s recent appointment to a leadership role with the Independence Chamber of Commerce near Kansas City, MO.
For the past six years, Valerie, along with her daughter Emily Byrnes, has been the heart and soul behind Waterfront. Their eye for style, commitment to community, and personalized approach to customer service turned the shop into more than a business — it became a local treasure. As Valerie embarks on this new chapter, her legacy will live on through the creative force of Corey and Emily. The business will benefit from new inspiration brought by Corey, who brings a dynamic vision for the future while honoring the strong foundation already in place.
“I’m incredibly grateful for the relationships, creativity, and community support that Waterfront has brought into my life,” said Valerie. “Passing the torch to Corey feels like the perfect fit. His energy, business acumen, and shared values give me complete confidence that Waterfront’s best days are still ahead.”
Corey Carolla, a lifelong Michigander and seasoned business builder, is no stranger to leading with passion, integrity, and a customer-first mindset. His plans for the store include maintaining the unique charm Waterfront is known for while expanding offerings and deepening community engagement.
“Custom Framing will remain at the heart of the business with the same commitment to quality and creativity initially established by the Wollenslegel’s and carried on by Valerie and Emily,” noted Corey.
“I’m honored to continue the legacy of Waterfront,” Corey shared. “It is more than a store — it’s a symbol of beauty, creativity, and connection. I look forward to serving our loyal customers, welcoming new ones, and growing something truly special with the same heart that Valerie brought every day.” High end fashion will remain a priority of Emily Byrnes, ensuring the same positive energy and love is poured into each and every shopper. The dynamic collaborative nature of combining art, fashion and framing with be elevated to new heights under the energetic teamwork of Emily and Corey.
