Tracy Letts’ critically acclaimed play “THE MINUTES”  opens Thursday, April 18th  and runs through Sunday April 28th at The GhostLight Theatre. Directed by Chicago-based Director Nate Cohen, THE MINUTES  will mark the first production of the 2024 GhostLight Theatre season.

THE MINUTES is a scathing new comedy about small-town politics and real-world power from the author of August: Osage County, playwright Tracy Letts. This play exposes the ugliness behind some of our closely-held American narratives while asking each of us what we would do to keep from becoming history’s losers. Directed by Nate Cohen (STEPPENWOLF, NORTHLIGHT, ISINGLASS) the cast includes Julia Blyveis, Michael Bond, John Cook, Sam Donoho, James Gunter, Bill Klein, Rebecca Maxey, Madison Mosher, Doug Peterson, Michael Riggenbach & Carol Sizer with Assistant Director Lauren Mow, Artistic Design by Cindy Jakeway, Technical Design by Matt “Dolphy” Clark, with Costume Design assistance from Barb Klein and Donna Metz.

“At its core, The Minutes is a play about the power of our sacred narratives,” says Cohen. “We are at a moment in America where it feels like we are being pulled apart at the seams by the dueling power of our sacred narratives. Can we confront our history? (The Minutes) is brilliant because it balances two things - the horrible power of conviction unchecked by reason, and the side-splitting absurdity that is the dysfunction of local government.”  Cohen goes on to say “It has been an absolute pleasure to work on this show with this dedicated community of artists (here) at The GhostLight Theatre.”

In addition to The Minutesthe GhostLight Theatre mainstage season consists of three additional productions: Bright Star – The Musical written by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell with a beautiful bluegrass orchestrated score (June 13-23), Stephen Schwartz classic dance musical Pippin (Aug. 8-25) directed and choreographed by Lari Lawrence-Gist, Director of Dance at The Citadel Dance and Music Center, as well as a reprise of The Rocky Horror Show Musical (Oct. 17-Nov. 3) which sold out it’s 8-show run last fall before opening night.  Also adding to the palette of theatre and education this year will be a first-ever 1-weekend run of a Young Adult production of the play She Kills Monsters (July 18-21).

General Manager and Artistic Director Paul Mow says, “We couldn’t be more excited about our 5th anniversary season here at The GhostLight Theatre. These particular shows are sure to take our audiences on very different journeys this year but all of them will challenge our hearts in one way or the other.”
