The GhostLight Theatre presents a new original devised piece, VOLTA, created and performed by the Philadelphia-based ensemble The Hum, featuring Southwest Michigan native Aiden Ankli, and Philadelphia residents William Acker, Tenara Calem, Arantxa Chavez, and Jo Kramer Bailey. The limited, three-performance run includes shows on Friday, February 27th at 7:30pm, and Saturday, February 28th at 3:00 and 7:30pm.
The show is one hour long. General admission tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the following link:

VOLTA explores the enduring power of love after death. When Wren arrives at the Mariposa Hotel, she is certain something bad has happened, and she will fix it by finding her sister Lottie. Yet nothing at the Mariposa Hotel moves or functions in quite the way Wren expects. Staff pops out of walls, doors lead to museums where memories stand like sculptures, people call loved ones from other dimensions, and she keeps just missing Lottie. And throughout, a writhing, pulsing, shifting mass invites her to join blissful oblivion. As Wren searches for Lottie, she revisits her life in fits and bursts, finding tenderness, bitterness, loss, and celebration in equal measure. The performance features some mild language as well as themes of death and loss. It is recommended for audiences ages 15 and up.
Developed in Philadelphia by The Hum, VOLTA is an original, devised performance in the physical theater and clown traditions. The Hum met in graduate school at the Pig Iron School in Philadelphia, and created VOLTA as their graduate showcase show in May of 2025. Since its first performances, VOLTA has had a New York premiere with PhysFest 2026 at the Stella Adler Studios in Manhattan. The GhostLight Theatre presentation will be the next stop on VOLTA’s national tour. In June, The Hum will travel to Las Vegas for performances in the Fall Out Fringe Festival.
VOLTA’s cast (Aiden Ankli, William Acker, Tenara Calem, Arantxa Chavez, and Jo Kramer Bailey) are the creators, developers, directors, and writers of the piece in what is known as a non-hierarchical devising ensemble process. VOLTA features sound design by Colby Calhoun, costume design by William Acker, and is stage managed by Ashley Bailey.
In addition to the performances, The Hum will offer three workshops to Benton Harbor theater makers; one with Lake Michigan College, and two with the GhostLight Theatre. The workshops will provide opportunities for interested theater artists to dive into new physical theater performance territories, such as clown, mask, ensemble chorus, and dance theater.
“VOLTA is meditative, transportive, and otherworldly. The ensemble’s work is magical, shifting seamlessly between characters and states of being. It’s a journey that lingers, haunting and beautiful, long after the performance ends,” says Jacinta Yelland, Philadelphia artist and creator of the award-winning show KOAL.
"We are so delighted to bring The Hum’s devised theatre piece VOLTA to life here at The Ghostlight Theatre. Many young theatre artists today are unaware of the incredible visionary vehicle that devised theatre can bring to their own landscapes. We can't wait to share what these fine young folks have been working on in Philadelphia right here to our stage in Benton Harbor. We are especially proud to bring home one of our own emerging artists, Aiden Ankli, and can't wait to share the fruits of her artistic labors!" – Paul Mow, General Manager/Artistic Director of GhostLight Theatre
Tickets to VOLTA range from $12 for students with a valid ID to $20 general admission. They can be purchased at:
