The Center for Growth and Independence kicks off their 38th Annual Softball Fundraiser, taking place July 25th and 26th at Plangger’s Park in Benton Harbor, MI. This event, sponsored by Dominion Chevrolet, brings the community together for a weekend of friendly competition, team building, and a positive impact for the community’s most vulnerable populations.
This community event takes one of America’s favorite games, baseball, and adds a creative twist: bribe the ump to put the other team at a disadvantage! Bribes can range from swapping out the player’s bat for a pool noodle, to a silly costume they must wear on the field, or even “running” the bases on a pogo stick. Each bribe helps bring The Center closer to alleviating the barriers in the community for the clients served.
The Center’s Annual Softball Fundraiser raised $20,000 in 2024 to provide safe transportation for those in The Center’s programs. This year, The Center is focusing on increasing client access into the community through membership purchases.
“We anticipate a mutually beneficial outcome,” Tami Gould, Executive Director of The Center says, “our clients will gain access to valuable opportunities, enhancing their quality of life, while local business will experience increased memberships and revenue growth.”
The Center invites everyone to participate in this year’s event. There are many ways to get involved! Whether it be sponsoring the event, registering a team, a one-time donation, or cheering on the teams on game day!
