The Southwest Michigan Regional Airport Authority has received a clean financial audit, reaffirming the airport’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible financial management.

During the Airport Authority’s regular board meeting on January 22, 2026 Airport Director Christopher Beckman announced that the Authority’s independent auditors issued an “unmodified and clean” opinion on the airport’s financial statements for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2025. A clean audit opinion indicates that the financial statements fairly present the Authority’s financial position in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

The independent audit, conducted in accordance with U.S. generally accepted auditing standards and Government Auditing Standards, found no material misstatements and confirmed that the Authority’s financial reporting accurately reflects its operations, assets, and liabilities.

“This clean audit is an important milestone and reflects the diligence of our staff, management, and board in maintaining responsible financial practices,” said Airport Director Christopher Beckman. “It demonstrates that the Airport Authority is managing public resources with integrity while continuing to invest in critical infrastructure and operational improvements.”

Airport Authority Board President Ted Kalin, who represents Royalton Township, also welcomed the news, emphasizing the importance of fiscal responsibility.
“We are pleased with the results of this audit,” Kalin said. “It’s reassuring to know that the Airport Authority is using our community tax dollars responsibly and managing its finances in a transparent and accountable way.”

According to the audited financial statements, the Authority reported total net position of approximately $19.8 million as of June 30, 2025, with more than $18.5 million invested in capital assets supporting airport operations.

The audit also highlighted continued improvements in financial reporting practices, including strengthened lease accounting procedures and enhanced fuel inventory tracking.
