For the first time ever, South Bend International Airport (SBN) had more than 50,000 people depart on flights in a single month. March 2025 enplanements – an industry metric indicating the number of people boarding an airplane from a specific airport – increased 24.6% year-over-year from 40,612 to 50,602.

At the end of the first quarter, SBN enplanements reached 134,624, a 27.7% increase over the first quarter of 2024. Historically, in the aviation industry, January and February are the slowest months of the year while March begins the busy Spring Break travel season. However, SBN saw an increase in year-over-year enplanements of 43.8% and 17.6% in January and February, respectively.

“Whether you travel for business, leisure, or both, I’d like to thank every person in our region that chooses to fly SBN,” said South Bend International Airport CEO and Executive Director Mike Daigle.

“Forward looking schedules show summer seat capacity up 30-40%. This is a result of additional frequencies on existing routes and new routes that started toward the end of 2024. With a continued choice to fly South Bend, we anticipate serving over one million total air passengers by the end of 2025.”
