ST. JOSEPH, Mich. — One of Lake Michigan's premier sailing traditions returns to St. Joseph over Labor Day Weekend as the annual Tri-State Regatta brings an overnight fleet of sailboats from Chicago for the first leg of the race series.
For generations, the Tri-State Regatta has been a highlight of the Lake Michigan sailing season, bringing together crews from across the region for a weekend of competitive racing, camaraderie and hospitality. Sailboats begin arriving in St. Joseph on Saturday morning following the overnight race from Chicago. The St. Joseph River Yacht Club welcomes the fleet for the first-leg finish before competitors depart Sunday morning for the next leg of the race.
While the racing takes place on Lake Michigan, the celebration continues ashore.
The public is invited to the St. Joseph River Yacht Club on Saturday, September 5, to enjoy the waterfront atmosphere, food available for purchase and live entertainment celebrating the arrival of the fleet. Dinner will be accompanied by live music from Jonny Love before the evening's featured performance by Libido Funk Circus begins at 8:00 p.m. Public admission is $10 after 5:00 p.m.
"The Tri-State Regatta has long been one of Lake Michigan's great sailing traditions, and we're proud to welcome sailors and visitors to St. Joseph each Labor Day Weekend," said Colin Anderson, Commodore of the St. Joseph River Yacht Club.
