MICHIGAN WORKS! ADULT EDUCATION PROGRAM ANNOUNCES OPEN OFFICE HOURS AT GALIEN PUBLIC LIBRARY
BENTON HARBOR, Mich.- With transportation being a top barrier for individuals in Southwest Michigan, Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren, and Neighbor by Neighbor joined forces to bring Adult Education services and a variety of additional support services to individuals who live in Southwest Berrien County with open office hours at the Galien Public Library.
Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren, in partnership with Neighbor by Neighbor, announced today that they will be hosting open office hours at the Galien Public Library, located at 302 N Cleveland Ave, every Tuesday, beginning on April 9 from 12:30-3:00 pm, eliminating the need to travel to Benton Harbor.
“At Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren, we recognize that transportation is a barrier for those that need our services. Whether it be for education, training, or employment- we are working diligently to meet individuals where they are so we can support their employment journey,” said Paul Kirk, Vice President of Workforce for Michigan Works! Berrien, Cass, Van Buren. “We invite anyone who is interested in earning their GED to come meet with our team! We will also have Neighbor by Neighbor staff present to assist with removing any barriers that stand in the way of success.”
Individuals who attend the open office hours and begin working with the Michigan Works! Adult Education team can expect to:
- Establish a customized GED plan so individuals can work at their own pace (day or night)
- One-on-one support from teachers and volunteers
- Free GED testing and support services
- Ongoing support for at least one year after completion of the GED for further education, training opportunities, and connections to a career

Individuals who live in Berrien, Cass, or Van Buren counties can also stop by the Benton Harbor Michigan Works! Service Center, located at 499 West Main Street during regular business hours (Monday-Thursday from 9:30 AM – 3:30 PM) to get started. To enroll virtually, contact the Michigan Works! Neighbor by Neighbor is a nonprofit 501c3 organization that works to address food insecurities, homelessness, and the dire needs of the vulnerable seniors and disabled individuals in our community. They are a resource for low-income neighbors in Southwest Berrien County that provide the tools and education for them to progress from dependence to independence.
