Meet the Adoptable Kittens at the Pop-Up Kitty Café

Franklin Pest Solutions and the Michiana Humane Society are sponsoring a Pop-Up Kitty Café on Friday, April 10 at the Franklin Pest Solutions office at 1715 Franklin Street in Michigan City from 10AM to 2PM.

At the Kitty Café, guests can pet and play with adoptable kittens making their debut. Available kitties include Captain Whiskers, Clawdia, The Chief, Sir Pounce-A-Lot, Meowrio, Mouseralla, Squeakers and many more. It’s a fun family event where attendees can play with kittens, consider adoption and enjoy a snack with coffee/tea. Proceeds will go to the Michiana Humane Society.  All the kittens will be up for adoption.

“We are delighted to work with partners like the Michiana Humane Society to help keep pets and everyone safe by educating homeowners on topics like the dangers of DIY pest control,” Franklin marketing director Janelle Iaccino said. “Sometimes, people with cats think they’ll be helpful in keeping pests like rodents out but I have two cats and sometimes they bring mice in the house as a surprise gift. We want to keep the pests out and keep our pets safe.”

Why Pet Safety Matters During Pest Season

Franklin says it’s also important for people to understand how dangerous DIY rat poison can be to pets and wildlife. “We sometimes hear about someone going rogue with rat poison and unintentionally killing pets or wildlife like a family of owls where the male owl feeds off a poisoned rat and brings it as food back to the nest, unknowingly killing the parliament of owls,” Iaccino said. “It’s a serious problem that we can’t stress enough. Leave that to professionals.”

Two women stand indoors, one holding a barn owl. They are smiling, with shelves and decorative items in the background, creating a cozy scene reminiscent of kitten adoption events in Michigan City.

Nicole Harmon and Janelle Iaccino with Ambassador Owl help educate Hoosiers on how to handle a rodent problem safely.

This partnership is also timely because April is when temperatures heat up and mosquito season starts. “We are typically not thinking of how mosquitos can affect our pets but they can,” Iaccino said. “Mosquitos can transmit serious diseases like heartworm to cats and dogs so it’s important to keep backyards from turning into mosquito breeding grounds.”

Franklin helps keep pests out of the house while protecting pets using non-polluting, EPA-regulated professional products and tools/green technology that is safe for pets, kids, and everyone.
