HICKORY CREEK PAVILION PROJECT GAINS MOMENTUM WITH CROWDFUNDING AND AEP CHALLENGE

The Village of Stevensville is excited to announce the Hickory Creek Pavilion project, a major initiative to enhance Hickory Creek Park with new, accessible amenities. The pavilion will feature ADA-compliant restrooms, a kitchen area, accessible picnic tables, and van-accessible parking spaces, making the park 

more inclusive and welcoming for all residents and visitors. The pavilion will also serve as a central hub for community events, gatherings, and recreational activities. 

To help bring this vision to life, the Village has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise $75,000 by December 9, 2024. The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) will match every dollar raised through the Public Spaces Community Places grant program, effectively doubling the impact of each donation if the fundraising goal is reached. Contributions of any size are welcome and can be made through the Patronicity platform at bit.ly/HCpark. 

In addition to this effort, American Electric Power (AEP) generously donated $25,000 to the project earlier this summer and issued a challenge to local businesses to collectively match their contribution. In effect, all business donations will be tripled, as the MEDC will also match every dollar raised by businesses, multiplying the impact of their support. 

“This is a powerful opportunity for both local residents and businesses to make a lasting difference,” said Kacey Dominguez, Village Manager. “With the AEP challenge and the MEDC match, every dollar donated will go further, helping us close the funding gap and create a welcoming space for our community.”

The Hickory Creek Pavilion project has already secured grants from the Department of Natural Resources, the Michigan Arts & Culture Council and the Frederick S. Upton Foundation.
