A beloved Southwest Michigan tradition is making its return as the first crate strawberry auction for charity comes back to the Benton Harbor Fruit Market on Friday, May 29 at 10:00 a.m.

As part of the kickoff to the market’s 166th season, Glassman Auctions & Real Estate will auction off strawberries from the first local grower to have fresh berries available for the 2026 season. In keeping with tradition, 100% of the proceeds from the auction will go directly to the buyer’s charity of choice.

Community members, growers, local businesses, nonprofits, and supporters from across the region are invited to attend and celebrate the beginning of another growing season in Southwest Michigan.

The return of the strawberry charity auction reflects that spirit of community stewardship and celebrates the growers, workers, and organizations that continue to shape the region’s agricultural heritage today.
