Cornerstone Alliance has officially launched its 2025 Strategic Action Plan, a focused and action-oriented blueprint designed to expand economic opportunity, strengthen communities, and enhance development throughout Berrien County. Approved by the Board of Directors on March 18, this plan reflects the vision of newly appointed President & CEO Marla Schneider and marks a significant step toward a more coordinated and impactful approach to regional development.
“Cornerstone Alliance has been a trusted part of this community for decades, and this plan reflects our enduring commitment to its growth,” said John Janick, Chairman of the Board of Directors. “With a talented and experienced team in place, we’re more energized than ever to get to work and deliver real results for Berrien County.”
The plan is centered around four strategic priorities: Economic Development, Community Development, Sites & Assets Development, and Housing Resource Development. Each area is supported by newly defined departments and dedicated leadership, reinforcing Cornerstone Alliance’s commitment to elevating its core services and improving internal capacity.
Economic Development efforts will focus on supporting Berrien County’s businesses through retention, expansion, and attraction initiatives. By engaging directly with primary employers, hosting industry programs, and aligning recruitment efforts with local site readiness, Cornerstone Alliance aims to drive job growth and capital investment throughout the county.
In Community Development, the organization will expand its work with municipalities to support downtown revitalization, waterfront redevelopment, and placemaking projects. The plan emphasizes helping local communities become development-ready and better equipped to leverage funding and incentive tools.
The Sites & Assets Development strategy will ensure that industrial, commercial, and residential properties across Berrien County are positioned for future growth. Through strategic site assessments and partnerships with key state and federal agencies, Cornerstone Alliance will help accelerate project development and infrastructure improvements.
Recognizing the growing need for housing solutions, the plan introduces a new Housing Resource Development initiative. This includes commissioning a county-wide housing study, supporting zoning reform, and creating a resource within Cornerstone Alliance to guide municipalities and developers through housing-related opportunities.
“This plan sets the stage for how we show up—for our communities, our partners, and our future,” said CEO Marla Schneider. “We’ve realigned our internal structure to match the scale of our mission, and we’re doing it with clarity, collaboration, and a strong sense of purpose.”
Cornerstone Alliance will implement this one-year plan, track its progress through measurable outcomes, and engage community stakeholders along the way. Following this year of execution and reflection, the organization will work with its partners to develop a longer-term strategy that continues building a stronger Berrien County.
