The Greater Bridgman Area Chamber and Growth Alliance (BCGA) is proud to announce that the Cook Plant Foundation has awarded a $50,000 grant in support of the Salute the Troops Playground, a new military service-themed community park to be developed at the Bridgman American Legion Post 331.

The Salute the Troops Playground is designed to honor local veterans and active-duty service members while providing a safe, inclusive, and engaging recreational space for families throughout the Bridgman area. The park will feature play structures inspired by the five branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, accessible equipment for children of all abilities, and educational elements to help future generations learn about service and sacrifice.

“The Cook Plant Foundation’s generous support brings us one major step closer to making the Salute the Troops Playground a reality,” said Nancy Kiernan, Director of BCGA. “This project embodies our community’s spirit of gratitude and connection, and we are deeply thankful to the Cook Plant Foundation for helping us honor those who have served our nation.”

The Cook Plant Foundation, funded by American Electric Power and its utility subsidiaries, including Indiana Michigan Power (I&M), focuses on improving lives through education, community development, and environmental sustainability. This grant reflects the Foundation’s commitment to investing in projects that strengthen communities and support families.

“As an integral part of the Bridgman community for over 50 years, Cook Plant is proud to be a part of creating a space that celebrates our veterans and brings people together,” said Cook Plant Foundation Vice President and AEP Executive Vice President & Chief Nuclear Officer Kelly Ferneau. “The Salute the Troops Playground will be a lasting tribute to service, courage, and community.”

The BCGA, in partnership with the Bridgman American Legion Post 331, the City of Bridgman and local volunteers, continues to raise funds for the completion of the playground, with plans to begin construction in 2026.

An official check presentation from the Cook Plant Foundation for the playground will happen Saturday, November 8th at 7:30 p.m. during the Salute the Troops Playground Fundraiser.
