The City of Benton Harbor is launching two community-focused efforts as it marks 160 years of history, progress, and pride.
The two-part campaign spotlights Benton Harbor’s 160-year history and invites residents to “chip in” by helping clean, care for, and strengthen neighborhoods across the city.
The first effort will share stories from Benton Harbor’s past and present, highlighting the people, places, organizations, and moments that have helped shape the community over the last 160 years. Through stories, photos, and community features, the City will recognize the legacy of residents whose work continues to make an impact today.
The second effort, Everyone Chips In, encourages residents to take part in caring for the city they call home. Whether it is picking up litter, mowing a shared green space, planting flowers, checking on a neighbor, or helping improve a block, the initiative recognizes that small acts of service can make a lasting difference.
“Benton Harbor’s story has always been one of resilient people who care deeply about this community,” said City Manager Alex Little. “As we celebrate 160 years, we want to honor the history that brought us here while encouraging residents to continue taking pride in their neighborhoods and helping move our city forward.”
The campaigns will feature stories of residents already making a difference, including volunteers, neighborhood leaders, community organizations, business owners, and young people who are helping keep Benton Harbor clean, welcoming, and connected.
“Every resident has a role to play in the future of Benton Harbor,” Little said. “When we work together, take care of our shared spaces, and invest in one another, we build a stronger city for current and future generations.”
Residents are encouraged to be part of this historic milestone by submitting their own stories and memories at Bhcity.us/160years. For upcoming stories, opportunities to get involved, and additional information as Benton Harbor continues its 160th anniversary celebration throughout the year.
