BH Awning Celebrates 100 Years As Local Family-Owned Business

BENTON HARBOR, MI: It takes a special kind of business to thrive for 100 years. For BH Awning, the recipe  for success is rooted in family. The local, family-owned company delivers custom awning and shade solutions to commercial and residential customers with a commitment to quality made possible by its dedicated team.

The experience and loyalty of the BH Awning family is central to the company’s longevity and success. The  current staff takes great pride in their craft and collectively has more than 100 years of experience delivering  eye-catching, comfortable spaces for businesses and homes.

Since 1922, the company has changed hands only a couple times. Current owner and general manager Jason  Krupinski acquired BH Awning in 2020 from Marilyn Dill, who co-owned the business with her husband Chuck  for 51 years. “I was looking for the right opportunity to own an established company with deep roots in the  community,” he recalls. “At the same time, Marilyn was looking for the right buyer to take care of her company,  staff and customers. It was a good fit for everyone.”

All 10 employees stayed through the ownership transition, says Krupinkski, who has worked alongside them as  they’ve shown him the ropes. Chief installer Steve Dill has been with the company for nearly 40 years, weld shop  manager Gary Igert has been there for more than 20, and most of the team has at least 10 years’ experience. “They are like family,” says Krupinski, adding, “Our clients know they can trust us to help their business stand  out and create comfortable outdoor spaces in homes and businesses throughout the community.”

Future plans include steady, controlled growth for BH Awning. “We continue to look at new revenue streams,  along with new technologies and efficiencies that have cut costs and wait times for customers,” he explains. Krupinski is a 15-year veteran of the U.S. Marines, holds a bachelor’s degree in business management and  spent 15 years in medical sales. An entrepreneur at heart, Krupinski is now using his skills as an adaptable,  proactive leader to drive the future of BH Awning.

Krupinski is a Michigan native and considers the Southwest Michigan area home. He coaches his son’s Little  League team, teaches Jujitsu, is involved in youth sports, and supports local charities. “I’d love to leave a legacy  and see the next Krupinski generation take over one day,” he says.

Since 1922, BH Awning has been providing premium, customized and innovative awning and shade solutions  for homes and businesses. BH Awning is a family business and is proudly veteran owned.
