"The Maids of the Mist are returning to Lake Bluff Park and we would like to celebrate! 150 years ago, the fountain was constructed. One hundred thirty-two years ago, on August 27, 1892 the fountain began its life at Lake Bluff Park. The fountain is property of the City originally purchased by H.E. Bucklew in 1892, the owner of the Whitcomb Hotel located across the street from the location of the fountain. The Whitcomb Tower now serves as an assisted living facility and an outdoor wedding venue in the summer. The fountain is nearly 25 feet high and the basin is 25 foot in diameter. In 1974, the fountain was restored by Corwin Rife, curator of the Kalamazoo Public Museum. This restoration was the first massive restoration since then. The restoration was completed by McKay Lodge Conservation Laboratory, who holds the contract with the U.S. General Service Administration for the restoration and conservation services in the U.S. National Capital Region. A huge thank you to Mrs. Judy Felland for her generous donation to complete the restoration."
The Whitcomb will host attendees on the veranda for beverages and small snacks following the rededication.
