Kelly VanderKley will conduct a linocut printmaking workshop on Saturday, May 7, from 9am to 2pm at the Box Factory for the Arts. The workshop fee is $75 for members and $90 for non-members of the Berrien Artist Guild. Registration is available online at
https://boxfactoryforthearts.org/classes-workshops or by credit card by calling the Box Factory at 269-983-3688 during normal gallery hours.
Workshop participants will learn to carve, ink and impress a linoleum block onto paper. Instruction will include image preparation, carving techniques, printing methods and editing. Each participant will take home three prints of their work. All supplies will be furnished with the exception of the linoleum block which can be purchased from Kelly the day of the workshop. She suggests bringing a pencil, a black Sharpie marker, and design ideas to the workshop.
Kelly is a Print Media Technologies instructor at the Van Buren Technology Center where she teaches high school students the principals of graphic art and printing technology. She has earned two master’s degrees from Western Michigan University in Art Education and in Career and Technical Education.
She has exhibited her work in numerous art shows throughout Michigan, including many at the Box Factory, and has had her work published in The Hand: The Magazine for Reproduction-Based Art.
Kelly also rescues printmaking equipment and has a workshop studio filled with antique letterpresses, etching presses and lithography presses that are all functional and often put to use. Along with teaching printmaking, Kelly also often takes classes in advanced techniques to expand her own knowledge and skills. She hopes to share what she has learned with others.
