The Lake Michigan Youth Orchestra is an educational component of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra. It has provided an orchestral experience for talented young student musicians in southwest Michigan for over 40 years. The four ensembles reflect the advancement to more complex music as students progress on their instruments. Concerts by the LMYO are the Run-Out Concert; a Winter Concert, and a Spring Concert. The LMYO program includes scholarships to summer music camps, sectional rehearsals with members of the Southwest Michigan Symphony Orchestra
and free tickets to SMSO concerts. The Youth Symphony, Encore Strings, LMYO Winds and Concert Strings rehearse Monday evenings throughout the school year. Membership is by audition for all groups.
