On Thursday, February 4, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. St. Joseph County Airport Authority Board President Abraham Marcus will present a $5,600 check to Lani Vivirito, Chief Policy & Resource Officer at the Center for the Homeless. The presentation will take place in the atrium at South Bend International Airport to provide for social distancing.

The funds raised from South Bend International Airport’s ninth annual Bears in the Air program will benefit local veterans residing at the Robert L. Miller Sr., Veteran’s Center on the campus of the Center for the Homeless.

“The need for us to continue the Bears in the Air program was crucial given the challenges brought about by the pandemic,” said Mike Daigle, South Bend International Airport’s CEO & Executive Director. “Because of the community’s generosity, we are pleased to be able to provide $5,600 in assistance to the veterans at the Robert L. Miller, Sr. Veteran’s Center. It’s been nine years since the Center opened and in those nine years our Bears in the Air program has provided $61,600 in support to our local veterans.”

The ninth annual Bears in the Air program was conducted virtually due to the pandemic. Donations were collected beginning in November with a virtual celebration on December 4, 2020. This donation is in addition to the more than 1400 newly purchased teddy bears that were delivered to children in area hospitals in December.
