Malcolm Turnbull, the 29th Prime Minister of Australia, possesses a unique and timely understanding of the current geopolitical moment. As Prime Minister, he forged lasting connections with world leaders and speaks to the influence that their politics have on the world. During his tenure, Turnbull was involved in key policy decisions that have not only altered Australian society but also have international implications for other countries facing similar issues—same-sex marriage, environmental conservation and energy crises, global trade, cyber security, and the ever-worsening refugee crisis. Turnbull will share his valuable insights into issues impacting the world during “An Evening with Malcolm Turnbull.”

Join us for a buffet dinner served in newly renovated Grand Upton Hall before the presentation. This is a convenient way to enjoy an unhurried meal and socialize with others in the community. Dinner begins at 5:30 pm. At 6:30, we welcome a panel of local experts for a 30-minute discussion Global Issues and their Impact on Our Community”
 
Panelists will discuss the local effect of three global issues: climate change, poverty, and health care. They will explore locally observable dimensions of these issues and the actions each one of us can take to move our community forward in positive ways. Panelists are:
 
  • Jamie Brooks, J.D., Executive Director of CASA of Southwest Michigan and Global Philanthropy Alliance
 
  • Laura Goos, St. Joseph City Commissioner and Global Senior Manager,Talent Acquisition with Whirlpool Corporation 
 
  • Katherine Kwon, MD, practicing physician and partner at Lake Michigan Nephrology
 
  • Panel moderator Amy Scrima, PhD, Chair of Social Sciences, Humanities and Education at Lake Michigan College

Following dinner, ticket holders for Malcolm Turnbull's presentation will take a short walk through The Mendel Center to reserved seats in the Mainstage. Volunteers and wheelchairs will be available to assist those with mobility issues.
