Buchanan Michigan has a long legacy of town-wide events that garner record amounts of participation from its citizens. The holidays in Buchanan are one example of such an event. As more locals became involved, their annual Christmas celebration grew to include Small Business Saturday, a parade down main street, a tree lighting ceremony, and more! The Buchanan Area Chamber of Commerce aptly chose to name their celebration, “Small Town, Big Christmas!”
Dr. Greta Pope is an internationally recognized, award-winning vocalist and a Buchanan native. She has received acclaim for her multi talented activities including writing, bandleading and television and radio hosting. When Dr. Pope announced that she not only wrote a song for Buchanan but also planned on donating both her musical and marketing talents to the city, she astounded and delighted the whole town. Says Pope, “It is with great pleasure and excitement that I present the Christmas in Buchanan song to the City of Buchanan. I have written the custom lyrics and produced a full version of the song, along with shorter versions for use in various applications.”
While the citizens of Buchanan proudly claim Dr. Greta Pope, Pope also proudly claims Buchanan. Says Pope,
“I am thrilled for this opportunity to contribute to the beautiful town of Buchanan. My husband Edward L. Wimp and I have been seasonal residents of Buchanan for 40 years. Our son Edward W. Wimp, Esq. took his very first steps in our Lake Home. We spent many wonderful afternoons at Kathryn Park. Edward learned how to ride a bike, skateboard and drive a car in a church parking lot in downtown Buchanan. In other words, Buchanan is home for our family. We love the town and its people. We’re very proud to be part of this community.
We remember the end of the Clark Equipment era and the decline of downtown Buchanan. It is such an inspiration and joy to see the area revitalized by the wonderful merchants, city government, area businesses, community organizations, families and individuals who are pioneering a new era for Buchanan.
It is my pleasure to donate the production of this song to the City of Buchanan and its residents. I hope that it will become synonymous with Christmas in Buchanan for many Holiday Seasons to come in this magical place.”
“Christmas in Buchanan” will be debuting this month across radio stations, in local schools, and is available to stream now. The song will also be proudly sung at a sing-a-long during the tree lighting ceremony in The Common, the dramatic culmination of the Small Town Big Christmas celebration on November 27, 2021.
