The Southwest Michigan Black Nurses Association invites you to attend an informational event to learn about the All of Us Research Program. Food and drinks will be provided.
The All of Us initiative works to collect data from diverse populations throughout the United States in an effort to accelerate research and improve health.
This program researches diseases down to the individual, by taking into account differences in lifestyle, environment, and biology to uncover paths toward delivering precision medicine. Participation in this program will help us learn about how our bodies react to diseases, including treatment and prevention.
“The issue is that most people of color don’t participate in these research programs,” said Dee Dee Spates, BSN, RN, President of the Southwest Michigan Black Nurses Association. “So [there’s very little to nothing known about] how diseases affect us, our community, and how to prevent them.”
There are two opportunities to attend an informational event:
Wednesday, June 19 and Wednesday, July 17
6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
Lake Michigan Gardens (located across from Lake Michigan College)
2584 East Napier Avenue
Benton Harbor, MI 49022
An event flyer is attached for your reference – Please feel free to share this information with your colleagues, family members, and friends. For more information or to register for an event, please contact Dee Dee Spates by calling (269) 313-4177 or e-mailing dspates@lakelandhealth.org.
